Hello, this is Dawn B. I am a recovered compulsive overeater from Southern California. I can’t tell you how excited I am to begin our journey through the 12 Steps together using the 12stepstogether.com website and the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous!

When I first speak with a potential sponsee, I share my story as a compulsive overeater and explain how I sponsor. So at our first meeting, Session A, I will share just that. Once a sponsee and I agree to work together, I email that sponsee a list of instructions, and I let the sponsee know we will use the 12stepstogether.com website.

For the purpose of this Step study, please find a recovered sponsor who uses the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous to discuss your 12 Steps Together assignments.  If you need to find a sponsor, please see the Sponsor List or listen to the live meetings of A Vision For You; then jot down some Sponsor names (offered at the end of those meetings).

What I ask of my sponsees is listed below. It is a lot of work, which may seem overwhelming. It is through working the steps—honestly, completely, and thoroughly—that we compulsive eaters experience a spiritual awakening sufficient to recover from our disease. Our willingness to go to any lengths is vital for our recovery.

Every day, email your sponsor these three items:

    • Your food (before or after you eat it), including amounts and time of day
    • Actions you are taking to work your program
          For example:
I listened to both Vision4you meetings.
I went to a face-to-face OA meeting; and I signed up to be a speaker.
I talked to newcomers; and I listened to the Special Edition on ______, and learned ______.
    • Questions or concerns

Schedule Meetings with your Sponsor:

    • Read, take notes, and highlight passages that speak to you from the Big Book to discuss with your sponsor.
    • It is most beneficial for you to meet with your sponsor as soon as you complete an assignment, which may be several times a week.

Connect with Others, Carry the Message, and Be of Service

    • Daily, make an average of three phone calls to newcomers and/or recovered members from your face-to-face/online/phone meetings. At the end of A Vision 4 You live meetings, recovered sponsors and newcomers offer their names and phone numbers.
    • Share your notes about what you are learning from the readings, ask others about their experiences with the step you are working on, or ask recovered members how they navigated a particular situation while abstinent.
    • Announce yourself as a newcomer at the A Vision 4 You meetings.
    • Volunteer to lead, speak, share, and seek other ways to be of service.
    • Seek others to expand your personal support network. Include others you feel comfortable sharing about your recovery.

You are welcome to email me with any questions that you may have at dawn@adsi.net. I will do my best to get back to you in a timely manner.

Blessings to you!

Warmly,

Dawn B.
