Step 1
- Surrender School website, complete all items listed under Step 1
- Email Daily: Include what you are learning from the Special Edition Podcasts and your reading (Big Book, AA 12&12, Study Guide for Overeaters).
- Preparation for phone meetings: Highlight and take notes while you read the Big Book
Sponsor Phone Meeting Times
We will set up a time to meet during the week. We will read and discuss the Big Book sections that you have already studied. I will be interested in hearing what you have highlighted and how that reading relates to your experience. If you have put down the food, and quickly complete the assignments, we will schedule more times to meet during the week to review the Big Book and move you though the Steps promptly.
Carry the Message
Vital to your success in attaining and remaining in recovery is your willingness to carry the message of what you are learning to those who are still suffering. Begin immediately by announcing yourself as a newcomer to the online A Vision For You meetings, make daily outreach calls to newcomers and recovered members, share at face to face OA meetings, sign up to lead and be the speaker and seek out ways to be of service to others. Take notes on the Special Edition speakers, the readings in the AA Big Book, and on what you are learning. You can use this information as the message of recovery that you share with others. You stand on the shoulders of giants as you carry this message of recovery.
Practice carrying the message of recovery and being of service to others
Examples: Sign up/volunteer to speak at face-to-face OA meetings, call in to the Vision meeting and share, and of course, continue with daily outreach calls. Build your own personal support network. Find others with whom you are comfortable speaking and share what you are excited about in your recovery process. Call recovered members and ask them questions about their experience with the Step you are working on, or about other topics you are interested in. Call members whom you have heard share and let them know what it meant to you.
